Научная тематическая библиотека Украинского Института спелеологии и карстологии складывается
из двух частей:
1) Электронная библиотека – материалы в электронной форме, хранящиеся на сервере УИСК, доступные для чтения и загрузки online; Электронная библиотека в настоящее время формируется и предполагается к открытию в середине 2008 года.
2) "Физическая" библиотека – материалы в «твердой» форме (книги, журналы, проч.), хранящиеся в помещении Института в Симферополе (Украинская карстолого-спелеологическая библиотека). Эта библиотека также находится в стадии формирования; ее официальное открытие намечено на осень 2007 г. Библиотека будет доступна для пользования специалистам и спелеологам Украины и других стран. Каталог библиотеки, снабженный поисковым аппаратом, размещается на сайте Института. Предполагается обеспечивать копировальный сервис по заявкам специалистов и спелеологов. УИСК будет осуществлять систематическую работу по переводу твердых публикаций в электронную форму и их дублированному хранению на серверах Института.
К несчастью, большой фонд специальной литературы, который должен был составить основу библиотеки УИСК, был утрачен в результате пожара в октябре 2006 г (см. ниже "Историю вопроса"). Библиотечный фонд в настоящее время восстанавливается на основе пожертвований частных лиц и организаций.
Полный каталог текущих поступлений в библиотеку УИСК приводится на этой странице с указанием имен дарителей. Каталог обновляется по мере накопления новых поступлений (не реже одного раза в месяц).
Украинская карстолого-спелеологическая библиотека:
История вопроса
При создании УИСК в апреле 2006 года предполагалось, что основу научной библиотеки Института составит личная библиотека А.Б.Климчука – одна из самых крупных библиотек по карсту и спелеологии на пространстве бывшего СССР. Она накапливалась в течение почти 40 лет, содержала свыше 10000 единиц книг и журналов по этой теме, а также большое количество тематически подобранных оттисков статей. Начиная с 1980 года (создания карстолого-спелеологического отряда ИГН АН УССР) этой библиотекой активно пользовались многие спелеологи и специалисты Киева, Украины и других стран. В последние годы эта библиотека хранилась в доме А.Б.Климчука в пригороде Киева и готовилась к перевозке в Симферополь (в УИСК) весной 2007 года.
К несчастью, в начале октября 2006 года эта библиотека была полностью уничтожена в результате пожара.
Учитывая большую общественную значимость вопроса – наличия тематической библиотеки на базе научного учреждения открытого типа – для развития исследований в этой области и обучения новых поколений карстологов и спелеологов, Александр Климчук обратился к широким кругам карстолого-спелеологической общественности стран бывшего СССР и мира с просьбой о пожертвованиях литературы и помощи в востановлении утраченной библиотеки. Этот призыв был широко поддержан коллегами и друзьями по всему миру, в результате чего начался и продолжается поток поступлений литературы в адрес УИСК.
Это стало ярким выражением прочности и интегрированности мирового сообщества спелеологов и карстологов. Украинский Институт спелеологии и карстологии и его библиотека твердо намерены эффективно служить целям развития и укрепления этого сообщества и исследований в области спелеологии и карстологии.
Для координации этой международной кампании по сбору литературы, а также для выражения нашей глубокой признательности всем дарителям, мы размещаем на этой странице полный каталог текущих поступлений.

Thematic scientific library of the Ukrainian Institute of Speleology and Karstology consist of two parts:
1) Electronic library – sources in a digital form, reposited on the UISK server, available for online viewing and download; electronic library is being formed now and is supposed to open in the mid of 2008.
2) “Physical” library – published sources in hard form (books, journals, etc.), reposited in the main UISK facility at Simferopol (the Ukrainian Karst and Cave Library). This library is also currently being formed and is supposed to open officially by the fall 2007. The library will be open for use by scholars and speleologists of Ukraine and other countries. The library catalogue, equipped with a search engine, is available on the Institute’s website. It is planned to provide copying service by requests of scholars and explorers. UISK will work systematically on transferring hard copies into digital formats and maintain their duplicate repository on the Institute's servers.
Unfortunately, a large body of specialized literature, which was destined to form the basis of the UISK library, had been lost as a result of fire in October 2006 (see “Background” below). The library is being restored now on the basis of donations of private persons and institutions.
The complete catalogue of current entries to the library is posted on this page (see below) with donors’ names indicated. The catalogue is updated upon accumulation of new entries (on monthly basis at least).
The Ukrainian Karst and Cave Library:
Background
At the time of creation of the UISK in April 2006, it was supposed that the private library of A.Klimchouk will form the basis of the Institute’s scientific library. The Klimchouk’s library was one of the largest cave/karst libraries in the former Soviet countries. It was collected during almost 40 years and contained over 10,000 entries of books and journals, as well as numerous thematically collected and arranged separates. Since 1980 (the creation of the Karst-Speleological Department of the Institute of Geological Sciences in Kiev) this library was used by many cave/karst scholars and explorers of Kiev, Ukraine and other countries. During last several years this library was stored in the Klimchouk’s house in the Kiev suburbs. Since the beginning of 2006 preparations were in progress for transferring the library to the UISK facility in Simferopol, scheduled for the spring of 2007.
Unfortunately, in the beginning of October 2006 this library had been completely lost due to the fire.
Considering public significance of the issue, - availability of a specialized library based on an open-type scientific institution, - for promotion of research in the field and fostering new generations of karst and cave scholars, Alexander Klimchouk approached the broad karst/cave community in the former Soviet countries and internationally with a call for donations of literature and help in restoring the lost library. This call was widely responded by colleagues and friends around the world. The flow of literature donations began, and continues, to the address of the Institute.
This was an impressive demonstration of the strength and integrity of the international cave and karst community. The Ukrainian Institute of Speleology and Karstology and its forming library are strongly committed to efficiently serve to the development of the cave and karst community and promotion of speleological and karstological researches.
To help to coordinate this ongoing international effort, and to show our appreciation to donors, we present on this page the list of donors and the complete catalogue of current entries to the library.
